📖 About This Tradition
In Italian folklore, La Befana is an old woman who delivers gifts to children on Epiphany Eve (January 5th). According to legend, she was visited by the Three Wise Men on their way to see baby Jesus, but she was too busy cleaning to join them. Now she flies on her broomstick, filling stockings with candy for good children and coal for naughty ones.
Did You Know?
Children leave out wine and local food for La Befana, and she'll sweep the floor before she leaves!
