The Yule log cake (BΓ»che de NoΓ«l) is a traditional French Christmas dessert shaped and decorated to resemble a wooden log. This tradition originated from the ancient custom of burning a large wooden log in the fireplace on Christmas Eve. Today, the edible version is a sponge cake rolled with filling and covered in chocolate buttercream.
